We here at The Little Guy Marketing have been doing some soul searching over the winter. Last fall we ran into a lot of opposition from other SEO ‘firms’ all the while we were telling potential clients names of other firms to contact for comparison. I will of course not do this again. I always make it a point to know our competition but how can one know that a competitor will outright lie about you?

Personally, and this is Kelly talking, I believe wholeheartedly that there is enough room in this industry for everyone. I do not fear other SEO people. Maybe this is most because I know I am one of only few in this area who can do Local SEO as well as I do. I am disciplined, I am stubborn in my orderliness, and I use my anal-retentive OCD nature to micro-manage every single detail down to the coma and semi-colon, and I force every detail to work to its highest efficiency for every single client.

seo agency indianaHere at The Little Guy Marketing we often discuss how people search for services differently.  Men vs. Women, age factors, and by location. We decided to search ourselves to see if anyone has done the research on what variables there are in searches.

 

Searchengineland.com, a well respected resource in the SEO industry,  did the research.  They looked at what words are used, if zip codes are used, and if people use a modifier like a city or town when they are searching for a product or service.  If you are a business owner concerned about showing up correctly in as many areas as possible you should definitely read the article.

 

Along the same lines, we  were doing researching for a potential client, a carpet cleaner in Valparaiso Indiana, and we looked up the results for ‘carpet cleaner Valparaiso Indiana’ against ‘carpet cleaner 46383′.  The search engine Google gave us totally different results! While many of the same businesses showed up still they were ranked in a different order. From this we can only conclude that it would be beneficial to optimize your business information for both a zip code and a city name. Statistically, we have seen research that says the amount of people using a zip code to search is as low as 5% to as high as 40%. Though this is a very big margin the bottom line is this; there is a benefit to including the zip code in your SEO strategy.

Whether you like cold weather or not it is encroaching upon us here in NW Indiana as we speak and for many business owners that means the slow season is coming too, but, it doesn’t have to. The reality is that no matter what your industry you can still maintain a very active presence to the communities you serve, and most business owners have some skills, products, or services that are still available during the fall and winter months. So what are these 3 things that every business owner HAS to be doing this winter? Well it’s very simple, they are the 3 things business owners HAVE to be doing in the busy months; SEO, Social Media & Blogging.

 

#1 SEO; There’s no doubt that SEO is important.
